Reading about such (the latter) cases will make people wary enough to not contribute anything any more, as they usually expect a payback of whichever kind, like a discounted piece of the funded product, or the ownership of a unique founders version (did I hear a 'but I got exactly this title!' in the distance?) In some few but very discouraging (and widely published) instances the starters actually thought that was a great opportunity to rake in money and never pay it back. To get enough together, you need publicity, which means you have to spend part of the money on advertising instead of the actual product. Getting all your invested money back from those did more often than not fail completely.īut a good deal of the kickstarter projects didn't reach their goal because of the lack of money, which again was caused by the lack of people believing in the project. Some were absolutely utopic, and could never be made real. Look at all those projects which didn't make it for one or another reason. It is not a credit given by a single bank (determined by the white collars of said bank, or more often determined by a computer program that checks the company's performance and then dictates a decision), but it is a credit nevertheless, and will have to be paid back at a given time. It is not a question whether a community offers advice, and not a question if the company is willing to heed this advice, but a question of costs.Ī kickstarter project or something similar is nothing else than a credit. You could throw $10 million dollars at this company today and you would still have the same problems tomorrow. It's been said elsewhere, but.the bottom line is not a lack of resources. Perhaps making the case for it and trying to raise funds through Kickstarter would be fruitful? I know I'd contribute. There are a lot of great ideas there that I think would transform LOTRO, but I know SSG doesn't have the resources to do them.

This got me thinking, why can't SSG get resources? Ashes of Creation, an MMORPG in development, just raised over $2M using kickstarter, way more than they expected and I truly believe it's because they sold the idea of the MMO so well: One of the reasons we feel like very little gets done with this game is because of lack of resources. I've been playing MMO's since I was a kid (EQ1), and I've never come across a community as strong as LOTRO.

ASHES OF CREATION KICKSTARTER FULL
I think the following is true, and I think a lot of people would agree:ġ) LOTRO has some serious issues with many elements of the game, namely performance, class balance, and PvMP.Ģ) The forums are FULL of helpful and exciting suggestions/enhancement requests/bugs, almost all of which never get addressed.ģ) There is a strong community here, people who really care about and love adventuring in Middle Earth.
